Welcome to the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) CONNECT NHIN Health Information Exchange (NHIE) Gateway Community Portal. The NHIE Gateway, part of the larger NHIN CONNECT Initiative, will enable federal health care agencies and the health care providers to more quickly and easily share patient information. Initially, the Gateway will connect government health care providers within the Department of Defense (DOD), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Social Security Administration (SSA) and Indian Health Services (IHS) to provide secure access to and exchange of interoperable patient medical records. Gateway deployment will culminate in moving the core components into the public domain to build an open source community around the Gateway core using this portal. The portal will process access to Gateway software that can be downloaded by providers to quickly enable connections to the NHIN, along with a Software Development Kit (SDK) to lower the barriers to entry. The ultimate goal is to develop an open source community of developers and end users of the NHIE Gateway.
