[t] NHIN Trial Implementation Specification – This term is used to distinguish the specifications used during the 2008 NHIN Trial Implementation project. These specifications have since been deprecated or have undergone further development and have been promoted to Production Specifications.

[e] NHIN Emergence Specification – An NHIN Exchange specification developed to explore and evaluate potential new NHIN Exchange features or functionality. The development of these specifications is most often done in conjunction with a pilot project.

[p] NHIN Production Specification – These are specifications which have been accepted by the NHIN Technical Committee and approved for use in the NHIN Exchange. They are available for implementation and use by all NHIN Exchange Participants.

[1] Patient Discovery & Subject Discovery are not compatible between releases.  All other services are compatible.

[2] Compliant with Production Specification v2.0, with the exception that we only comply with the Namespace & Action Value specified in the older DRAFT Spec version 2.3. Everything else is compliant with Specification v2.0.

[3] Async XDR is incompatible between 2.4.x and 3.0 because 2.4.x was an interim solution implemented just in CONNECT while the NHIN specification factory worked on the standard specification. The implementation in release 3.0 is in line with the latest draft specification from the NHIN specification factory.

[4] There is a draft NHIN spec that has not been officially published yet that CONNECT 3.0 is in compliance with.

[5] This version is complaint to the 2.0 version of the Messaging Platform with the exception of the WS-RM version being used (GATEWAY-170)

Backward Compatability – Unless otherwise noted, patches to particular CONNECT releases are compatible with each other (e.g., 2.4.1 is compatible with 2.4.2, 2.4.3 and other 2.4.x patches, 2.4.2 is compatible with 2.4.1, 2.4.3, and other 2.4.x patches, etc.).

NHIN Production Specification – A NHIN specification that has been approved by the NHIN Technical Committee for production use by participants in the NHIN Limited Production Exchange.

NHIN Emergence Pilot Specification – A NHIN specification that is intended only for use in specific NHIN emergence pilot exchanges. Such specifications have not been approved by the NHIN Technical Committee for production use in the NHIN Limited Production Exchange. Current Emergence Pilot specifications may be considered for future production use in the NHIN Limited Production Exchange.
